HOW TO CREATE THE PERFECT BARREL CURL

Increasingly popular for hair styling, the barrel curl is easy to achieve on your own. Simply follow these instructions for a gorgeous new addition to your styling techniques.

Put the majority of your hair up, leaving out only the smallest section of hair that lies at the nape of your neck. Place your straightener at the very top of the hair that is loose and pull the straightener down to the very ends of your hair. Do this slowly and carefully. If you pull too tight, hair will come out.
 Example of Barrel Curls

Repeat this with all of your hair. Take a small section of hair out to work with each time until you have completed straightening all of your hair. As you straighten your hair, it will become easier to work with.

After you have straightened all of your hair, place approximately two thirds of it back up on your head. Once again, place your straightener at the top of the hair that and pull the straightener down to the very ends of your hair, twisting it as you pull downwards.

To achieve a tighter curl, twist the straightener as much as you can. Remember that the curls will probably loosen throughout the day or evening, so you should start with a slightly tighter curl than you want. However, if you are planning on using a strong hold hairspray or gel, this might not be necessary.

Style your hair in any number of ways. You can put half of it up and leave the rest down. You can also put all of it up.

Try a number of variations with the sizes of the curls that you create and the manner in which you secure your hair. This will help you identify the look that best compliments your hair length, hair color, face shape and features.
