Trading in your curls for a sleek, smooth style doesn't have to be mission impossible. With the right tools, hair products and a little know-how you too can have a straight hairstyle.
This is what you'll need:
•
A styling gel or cream designed for straight hairstyles
•
Wide toothed comb
•
Hair clips
•
A blow drier with a nozzle attachment
•
A large paddle brush
•
A flat iron
•
Shine enhancing product and humidity proof hairspray
First wash and condition your hair. If you have medium to thick hair use a conditioner for dry hair as it will provide more conditioning to your hair and help eliminate dryness and fly away hair. If you have very fine hair try a light, spray in conditioner that will give moisture to the hair but won't weigh it down.
Towel dry your hair until it is only slightly damp. This will both cut down on blow drying time and ensure that the hair products you apply don't get diluted by excess water left in your hair. Apply your styling gel or cream throughout the hair and, using a wide toothed comb, comb from the roots to the ends to evenly distribute the hair product. If possible, choose a styling product that contains silicone. Silicone will add shine to your hair, help eliminate any frizz and will give your hair a protective coating against the blow drier and flat iron.
Starting at the bottom of your head, section off a one to two inch section of hair and leave it down. Clip the rest up out of your way. With your blow drier on a low or medium setting, start at the roots and begin to blow dry the first section of hair. Use the paddle brush underneath the section and slowly pull the brush through your hair as you guide the blow drier along the length of your hair. Keep the drier's nozzle pointed slightly downward while you go to help the outer layer of your hair, called the cuticle, flat. This will give you hair a smoother and shinier appearance.
Continue to dry your hair in this method, making sure each section is completely dry before moving on to the next, until you have worked your way up to the top of your head. You'll now want to part your hair how you plan to wear it. If you'd like a little extra volume to the top portion of your hair simply lift the section you are blow drying up and away from your head while you dry the roots of your hair. This will create lift and give your hair more body.
To make your new smooth hairstyle perfect gently run sections of your completely dried hair through a flat iron. The iron will straighten any remaining kinks in your hair and finish closing the cuticle of your hair shaft for extra smoothness and shine. Finish off with a mist-on shine enhancing product and a humidity proof hair spray to keep your sleek style locked in.
