CHANGE YOUR HAIRSTYLE WITH A PART

If your bad hair days are cropping up with alarming frequency, you may not need a new cut, highlights, or even the latest hair product. You may simply need to deviate from how you normally part your hair. Something as simple as changing your part can instantly add body and volume to hair that is used to flowing the other way. Try these tips to add new interest to your face, and to avoid a part that is wrong for your face shape.

A deep side part with bangs swept sleekly across the forehead is sexy, feminine, and very popular. If your hair is all one length, this part can give you instant bangs and a softer look.

Oval faces can wear a middle part. Round faces look longer when the hair is parted in the middle. All other face shapes should avoid a middle part. If your face is oval or round, you still need to beware of the middle part. Very few women can carry it off, even those with the "right" face shape. If you have a prominent nose, avoid a central part.

The "zigzag" part is very flexible. The idea is to part from the forehead back about one-fourth of an inch, then move over an inch and start a new part about the same length, one-fourth of an inch. Keep repeating until you reach the desired length of the part. Gently smooth out hair to rest in its new "mussy" state. The width between the varied parts can be narrow or wide, and the sections of parts can also vary. Resist running your fingers through your hair so you do not disturb your carefully placed parts.

A diagonal part works with bangs, with the vee of the part on the top of your head, and angling to the sides of the bangs, with the bangs falling forward on the forehead.

Try making a part that begins on the side but ends at the top of the crown. Or begin the part in the middle, and make a dramatic line to one side.

Examine your nose. Does it veer ever so slightly to one side? Part your hair on the side toward which it points. The hair will then be swept in the opposite direction, and will balance out your face.

Many women have one eye that is larger or prettier than the other. Draw attention to the eye you prefer by parting your hair on that side, with the parted line pointing directly to the center of the eye.

If you have short hair, you do not need a part at all. Today's styles allow you to tousle it up as funky as you dare.

Your hair is a critical part of your overall look. If you are unsatisfied with it, start playing! Ask a friend to help you experiment if you do not feel confident with your styling methods, or make an appointment with your hairstylist to show you how to choose a flattering part for your hair.
