WINTERPROOFING HAIR TIPS

Once winter arrives, it is important to take special care of your hair. Why is this time of year any different than other seasons of the year?

Inside heating and cold outside temperatures rob hair of precious moisture. Combined, these two conditions are the culprit behind dry, static-y, flyaway hair that is difficult to manage and style. Also, hair dryers are used more often since no one wants to step foot outside into the cold winter air with a head of wet hair.
 Winter Hair Tips

Control static buildup in your hair by lightly spraying brushes and combs with Static Guard. And before you wear hats or jacket hoods, give them a quick spray too.

Not only do hair dryers dry out your hair quickly, but also, they cause lasting damage. Using an intensive daily conditioner that contains shea butter should replenish the natural oils in your hair.

Typically, a fine layer of the conditioner remains on your hair shafts. Once this is heated, whether from the hot water that you use to rinse your hair, the hot air from the hair dryer, or a combination of both, the shea butter penetrates into the shafts, giving your hair protection as well as a glossy shine. If the tips of your hair are extremely dry, you can use a leave-in conditioner to spray them for extra protection.

Another tried and true method for protecting your hair during the winter months is to allow your hair to dry naturally. This might involve rising from your slumber ten or fifteen minutes earlier. Alternatively, you can always dry your hair partially and then allow it to dry naturally the rest of the way.

Another strategy to save your hair is to wash it every other day. Now, this strategy will not work for those individuals with oily hair. Therefore, those individuals can always try to wash their hair at night and allow it to dry naturally. This should effectively cut back on the damaging effects of blow drying. Using a moisturizing shampoo can also be of some assistance in preventing dried out hair.

If you simply must use a hairdryer to dry your hair after shampooing, point the hair dryer downward during the entire process. This strategy protects the delicate cuticles of your hair from heat damage. If you maintain healthy hair cuticles, it will go a long way to maintaining healthy hair.

Another good tip is to use one of the newer styles of hair dryer that are labeled as ionic models. This type of hairdryer releases conditioning opposite ions that are said to completely envelope your hair. This line of attack should also reduce flyaway hair problems.

It is also important tot ensure that your hair is properly hydrated. Drinking a sufficient amount of water on a daily basis is important. Although eight glasses a day is the recommended amount, something is obviously better than nothing. So, aim for eight full glasses of water and see where it takes you.

Eating a healthy diet, though a bit unorthodox as a hair conditioning treatment, is actually another good stratagem. Food products that contain iron, zinc protein, and Vitamins B, C, and E will provide the best protection. This includes whole grains, fresh fruit, green vegetables, chicken, whole grain cereals, and salmon.

Whatever you do to protect your hair, do it on a consistent basis if it works. If you try something and it does not provide the results that you want, try something else. Your hair is one of your most noticeable assets, so take care of it on a regular basis.
